Vertical or Horizontal?

Hello Everyone, hope you're enjoying your weekend.  I'm in a quandary and need some help.  I'm about to redo my scrap space into a full-blown room (yeah!).  Right now it serves as part office/part scrapping, but I just need more space (I'm sure you know what I mean!).  Anyway, my sweet husband is going to do the work for me, of course, but I'm the designer.  And before I can decide on certain storage options, I want to know how you all store your paper.  Vertically or horizontally?

I've been searching and searching ideas online, and I've read where it's better to lay your papers flat so they don't bend and curve.  Others feel it's much easier to search through papers that are stored vertically.

So...I'd like to know, which way do you prefer:  vertical or horizontal storage?  Please respond; I'd love to know what you're doing.  And what type of system/container(s) do you use?  Look forward to hearing from everyone.  Thanks so much!!

  1. Hi Pat, I started out with my papers horizontal (flat in drawers), but changed to vertical with "Paper Organizer Sets" by the Paper Studio that I bought at Hobby Lobby. It is so much easier to find what I want this way.

I have them organized by color.
I got it at HL with a 40% off coupon.
For the stacks, I store them horizontally on a shelf.

  7. Thanks for all your replies. Appreciate your input. I'm considering the rack type tower for my patterned papers (like Elaine suggested) and not sure yet about my 8-1/2 x 11 cardstock. But I did buy one of those Cropper Hopper vertical files (similar to what Tami said) to try it out. This will be a work in process yet; I'm still in the planning stages!

  9. All of my paper is being stored vertical at this moment. My hubby actually made me one of those wire racks, but my paper comes in pastic 12x12 bags from Close to my Heart. It's just easier to sort through in my opinion, and I know what's what this way.
