Penguins!

This week's challenge at

Use a Penguin

In recognition of Penguin Awareness Day (it was yesterday), we challenge you to make a card, layout, or altered project with a penguin in it.

I found this sweet guy on the Winter Frolic cartridge, along with the sentiment.  So I figured why not make an early holiday card?  Go me!

Some added touches
Google eyes
Twine hat trim and lollipop stick
Stickles on the cloud
Gems to dot the "i's" and the center of lollipop

The patterned paper is from DCWV Christmas stack.

We hope you'll join the challenge this week.
Remember, you have one week to plan, create, and submit your project using a penguin.  Please include which die cut you used and link your post to the Die Cuttin' Divas blog.

We look forward to your seeing your creations!
Thanks so much for stopping by.

Old and New!

This week's challenge at

Out with the Old, In with the New
(use something old and something new to make your project)

So I've been wanting to try making a flip card (new for me!), and for Christmas, I received a new set of Spellbinders Nestabilities Circle dies.

The paper I used is old; got it when I first started my blog 3 years ago.  It is DCWV Cafe Mediterranean solids and patterns, 2 different stacks.

The closed card

There are lots of tutorials out there on flip (or swing) cards.  My folded card size is 5 x 6.  I placed my circle on the "front side" of the card and scored above and below it at 2.5" (half the width of the card) and then 3/4" to the right of that score line.  I then ran it through my Big Kick, cutting the circle up to each fold line, leaving the 3/4" strip intact.  That's what makes the circle "flip."

Then I went to work covering the card with the patterned and plain papers.
The flower in the center is cut from the Art Philosophy cartridge with a scalloped circle behind that.

Following are various stages of opening the card.

And when you turn it over, it looks like this!
Funny, isn't it?!

Hope that may have helped give you some perspective on making a flip card.

Now come and join the challenge this week at Die Cuttin' Divas.  Use something old and something new in your project, and tell us what that is.  Be sure to use a die cut and link your post to the DCD blog site.  We'd love to see what you come up with!

Die Cuttin' Divas Sketch Challenge

Hi Everyone,

Happy 2014!

It's time for a new challenge at Die Cuttin' Divas, and
this week's challenge is...
a Sketch Challenge.

I made this anniversary card for my sister and brother-in law, but shhh...don't tell!  It's coming up soon, and since she's not a blogger, I think I can surprise them.

Here's the sketch for the challenge, designed by the very talented, Georgiana!

Other news from Die Cuttin' Divas includes the addition of two new Design Team Divas!  Be sure to visit the DCD blog to welcome Connie and Shelly to the team.  And check out the creative projects by all the design team Divas.

To enter this week's challenge, make a card or layout following the sketch shown above.  Be sure to include a die-cut in your project  and link your post back to the Die Cuttin' Divas site by January13.

I think I really like the color combos I used.  The plaid and orange striped papers are from DCWV Animal Crackers.  The green paper with polka dots is from Recollections Bold Basics, as is the green diamond patterned paper.

The pears are cut from Just Because Cards cartridge, and the mat behind it came from Art Philosophy cartridge.  The mat was embossed with Musical Flourish and the leaves with Herringbone.  The sentiment is typed from my computer, and I popped up that and the pears with foam squares as you can see above.  The adhesive accents are from Heidi Grace.

I finished the inside with matching papers and applied a heart border along the bottom.

I'd like to also enter this card into the following challenges:
FCCB #192 - use a sentiment
Just B Creative Crazy - just because/anything goes
LSP Fun Friday Linky Party - anything goes

Thanks so much for stopping by; I appreciate your visits!
