Hello! You've come to the last stop on the Embossing Blog Hop. I'm so glad you're here.
If you happened to just stop by, be sure to visit all the crafters for some great inspiration and blog candy!
I needed a card for a teenage boy's birthday. And that can be really tough. You certainly don't want it to be cutesy. Last year, I used a guitar on his card so I definitely wanted to go for something different this year. Here's what I made...
A little crazy? ... maybe. Different?...definitely! I know he likes music so I thought this would be appropriate. At first I was going to cut away the flourishes, but then I thought that maybe the flourishes were representing the music coming from the headphones!
Well, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!
Let me show you what I did. I first cut the base and skull from the Rock Princess cartridge at 3-1/2". This is a very wide image--it wound up being 7-3/8" wide! So that's why I made this a long card.
Gee, it's a bit plain looking, isn't it??
Well, that's where the embossing comes in. I used Cuttlebug Tiny Mosaic embossing folder.
Look at the ol' boy now!
Don't you just love what an embossing folder does to a plain piece of cardstock? I inked the edges and the raised "tiny mosaics" with Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Antique Linen for the final look.
The orange shimmer cardstock is embossed with the Cuttlebug Traffic Jam folder, which is an A2 size. So because the background cardstock is so long, the embossing has to be done in 2 parts. Luckily this pattern was easy to piece together. After running it through my Big Kick once, I put the cardstock back in the folder (actually turned sideways) and ran it through again.
Because the pattern is random, I was really pleased with how it turned out.
On the inside of the card, I embossed the green border strip with Cuttlebug's Distressed Stripes embossing folder. I used Kraft cardstock here and for the shadow on the skull.
I have some blog candy to offer for stopping by. And what could be more appropriate than an Embossing Folder!?
For a chance to win this embossing folder, just leave a comment on this post. It would be nice if you followed my blog, but it's not a requirement. I'll pick a winner on Wednesday, April 4.
In addition, if you feel so inspired, be sure to enter our challenge and make a project using some form of embossing, wet or dry. The winner will be announced on April 7. Check it out and enter your project at Carson's Creations !
